Thurston Helicopters - Trial Helicopter Flying Lessons
Thurston offer 30, 40 or 60 minute trial lessons and half day introductory courses from Headcorn Aerodrome. The trial lessons and half day courses both count towards the 45 hour
PPL(H) which are ideal for those who may not have flown in a helicopter before and want to experience the exhilaration of helicopter flight.
If you are interested in gaining your PPL(H), then the half day introductory course is for you. With two hours of flying and accompanying pre and post flight briefings, it is a great introduction to the course or a fantastic gift.
Trial helicopter flying lessons:
This includes a pre-flight briefing on basic helicopter procedures and aircraft controls, pre-flight inspection, plus start-up and shut-down procedures. Whilst in the air, you will be instructed in level flight, turns, power changes and a short introduction to hovering, under your instructor's tuition.
Trial Robinson R22 helicopter (2 seater) lesson prices (Updated April 1 2011 and subject to change due to rising fuel prices):
- 25 minute lesson - £189 - including VAT
- 40 minute lesson - £248 - including VAT
- 60 minute lesson - £334 - including VAT
Trial Robinson R44 helicopter (4 seater) lesson prices (Updated April 1 2011 and subject to change due to rising fuel prices):
- 25 minute lesson - £274 - including VAT
- 40 minute lesson - £369 - including VAT
- 60 minute lesson - £542 - including VAT
As the Robinson R44 is a four seater aircraft, you may wish to share your lesson with friends or family however please note that these flights are conducted as a lesson, with only the front seat passenger taking the controls during the flight.
Half day introductory helicopter courses:
Once you've experienced a trial lesson, you may still be unsure if the
private pilots licence is for you. To help you make up your mind Thurston now offer a half day introductory course. This includes two hours of helicopter flight time, pre and post briefings which cover effects of the controls, power and attitude changes, turns, climbs and descents, and an introduction to hovering, perhaps the most challenging part of helicopter flying.
